Sharon Madison
President and CEO
Sharon Madison is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Madison Madison International and is the third generation in her family to lead the firm. The company’s conglomerate of architects, engineers and real estate development professionals has managed more than $5 billion in design and construction projects, including 20,000 units of residential housing in 21 states, Africa and the West Indies.
With Madison in charge, her company redeveloped the 100-year-old Julian C. Madison Building in Downtown Detroit, and leases space to some of the city’s most well-known companies including Bamboo, Painting with a Twist, and Level One Bank.
The Detroit City Council appointed Madison as chair of the Detroit-Wayne Joint Building Authority in 2017 and as a representative on the Board of Commissioners. Under her direction, the Building Authority operates the 745,000-square-foot Coleman A. Young Municipal Center and recently commenced a $10 million capital spending plan focused on security upgrades and energy savings initiatives. In 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency honored the Building Authority with an Energy Star designation for reducing energy consumption.
Sharon has a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan and holds AICP credentials from the American Planning Association. In addition to her work with the Building Authority, Sharon is a member of multiple industry leading organizations, including the Urban Land Institute, the Real Estate Executive Council and the Building Managers and Owners Association International.
Jerrell Harris
Vice President
Jerrell Harris is a skilled urban planner and has broad experience in leading non-profit, private and government sectors on a wide range of projects, including government restructuring, overhauls of zoning codes, developing master plans, facilitating major land use changes and amendments and complex site plan reviews.
Prior to joining MMI, Jerrell served as the City of Detroit’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer and the Interim Deputy Director for the Department of Transportation. In his roles with the city he was responsible for solving complex operational issues, reducing redundancies and leveraging limited resources to the greatest extent possible. He also led the rebranding of the public bus system which included restructuring the fare system and payment options, providing on-board Wi-Fi technology and implementing a new logo and color-scheme.
Jerrell received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Masters of Science in Urban Policy Studies from Georgia State University. He is the first African American elected chair of the Michigan American Planning Association. He is also a Certified Economic Development Professional through the National Development Council.
Michael Steinback
Vice President
Michael Steinback is a seasoned economic development professional specializing in urban economics, construction risk management, and project development. Michael’s construction risk management experience has included key positions with major financial firms and institutions with responsibilities for monitoring and enforcing compliance with contractual safety and insurance components on Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIPs). With individual project construction values of up to $400 million, clients include the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART), San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI), The City of San Francisco, and more.
He is also an enterprise risk management consultant, experienced commercial banking lender and advisor to small businesses and urban economic development programs.
