Detroit Metro Airport
Madison Madison International was the managing partner for all design and construction activities at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. For sixteen years, MMI, Jacobs Engineering and Barton Malow provided program and construction management services for the airport’s $3.5 billion Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
As the Program Manager, MMI was responsible for design management, development and maintenance of the document control system, scheduling, DBE programs, EEO compliance and asbestos abatement in the existing terminal. The firm was also responsible for the development of the sound and insulation program for all buildings within the noise rings of the airport. During our tenure, the airport maintained 40% DBE/MBE/WBE participation.
We provided construction management and inspection services as well as community outreach. During the years that the CIP was implemented, over 500 projects were successfully completed by the team. The work included new runways, taxiways, hangars, fire stations, various parking structures and construction of the McNamara terminal.
A major challenge in airport construction is maintaining safe and secure operations for passengers, employees, and vendors while performing construction projects. Our team was successful in providing a safe environment while completing multiple complex projects and maintained an excellent cooperative and supportive relationship with the county and airport staff.
We received several industry awards for our work.
